How I motivate myself on off days

Working from home and looking after Joshua means I constantly have a juggling act in play so the last year has meant I've really had to find my groove to get my to do list done especially if I'm having a major off day. I'm a big fan of self care even though I forget to implement it myself sometimes so I've had to make sure I have some fail safe ways to motivate myself when I really am having an off day and need to crack on with what I need to do.

I've found solace in similar posts like this when I was really struggling. It's hard to find that balance and know when you just need a little push or a complete break. Each of the things I share in this post are what helps me give myself a kick to get going. They're simple, easy to implement and really do help me.

Take a day off
Seems silly that my first point to get motivated again is to have a day off but this is a big one for me and something I've only recently started to make sure I do. Having a job that centers around being online means I find it very difficult to switch off, especially as everything is so accessible now with my phone permanently attached to me. If things are really getting on top of me, I make sure the following day is solely for relaxing and spending time with my family, grabbing coffee or a yummy brunch. I can guarantee the following day my motivation comes back in bucket loads.

Start the day well
I find if I start the day well it sets me up for the hours ahead. Joshua likes to wake up horribly early so my day always starts early. Joshua has breakfast, I have a coffee and breakfast. I'm terrible for not eating in the mornings so I've been really making the effort recently. Joshua usually has a nap around 9am so I get to settle down with him and either have a nap myself or start on my emails and social media for the day. After he wakes, we have a shower and get ourselves ready for the day whether that be for a walk around the shops, a coffee date with friends or a walk to a park. If the day starts well, it'll more often than not end well too and I always do this with two litres of water too!

Do something I enjoy
If I really need to reset myself then the first thing I do is switch off my phone and grab a new book. I've really found my love of reading again this year and it just completely relaxes me, I've lost my way with reading this month due to the move and everything but I'm itching to get stuck in again. As well as reading, time with friends, a family day with my boys or recharging with a hot bath helps.

More often than not I come away with some fab content ideas after seeing the girls which gears me up for the rest of the month. Being able to bounce ideas off other people really helps me and I know they'll always give their honest opinion as to whether something will work or not. Cake helps too.

Wear something I love
This is always one way to give me the kick up the butt I need whether that is pulling out my favourite perfume (Narciso or Daisy) or rocking my favourite bold lip colour. When I'm happy with how I'm looking and my hair all swishy then I feel like I can accomplish anything even if that means the top half is completely done up ready for the day and the bottom half is in fresh pyjamas. Taking care of myself always helps, I just need to remember to do it daily.

Motivational Playlist
If I really need to crack on then finding a playlist on Spotify always helps. Arran can always tell what type of mood I'm in depending on what I'm listening too. If it's Mumford & Sons he knows to throw some chocolate at me and shut the door. If it's heavy trance he knows I'm in the middle of a photo session and if I'm shouting my lungs out to Florence and the Machine then he knows everything is going well. Music has always been such a big part of my life, I need something in the background if I'm working and having a pre-made playlist to give me a kick works wonders even if Arran does hate my music taste!

How do you get your day going? I'd love to know what your motivational tips are.
