The clocks have gone back, it's dark by 5pm and the weather is getting colder and with that our healthy, glowing complexions. I personally love this time of year but I do tend to switch my make up to suit the colder months, especially highlighter. I like to use highlighter throughout the year but I tone it down during the colder months as I prefer it more subtle. A slight dusting of highlighter can instantly perk up dull, winter skin, adding a bit of life and colour.
Three of my favourites for this time of year are Benefit Cosmetics Watts Up, The Balm Mary Lou Manizer and Mac Stereo Rose. I've also been using the Sleek Makeup Solstice Highlighting palette which is linked if you fancy a read. It's beautiful and such a bargain.
The Balm Mary Lou Manizer is a luminising highlighting powder in a beautiful champagne shade. Buttery soft, highly pigmented and worth every penny. Just dust on the face with a small brush to draw light to those cheekbones. Less is more with this as you can easily over do it. You can go from highlighted goddess to discoball in two seconds. There are three shades in their range of highlighters, each in a small compact with a mirror. I tend to use this more during the day just to perk my face up a little more.
MAC Stereo Rose is also a powdered highlighter and unfortunately limited edition. A coral based shade with dark gold throughout, it leaves a pinky finish on the skin. Again, it is really easy to over do Stereo Rose and end up looking like you have sunburn but paired with a frosty, neutral eyes and a nude lip, it's a picture perfect highlight for winter. If this swings back around in a Mac collection in the future make sure you pick one up as you won't be disappointed.
Lastly is a champagne, cream highlighter stick from Benefit Cosmetics. Watts Up is a product I can always count on to perk up dull looking skin so it's going to be my secret weapon this winter. Easy to apply and blend, Watts Up leaves a subtle, golden finish with just the right amount of sass. If liquid highlighter is more your thing then you'll love their Moon Beam highlighter which is a pretty similar shade. All three of these glistening little babies will be playing a big part in helping me achieve healthy, glowing skin especially after one too many at any Christmas parties.
What are you favourite highlighters to use this time of year?
I've always wondered about watts up but it's a hard job matching a colour to my oh so pale complextion! Nice post :) X

DeleteI've always been afraid to work with highlighters. I'm not sure why, and it's definitely something I want to experiment more with. I think watt's up sounds pretty much exactly what I'm looking for. Is it fairly easy to work with?

I didn't for years either, didn't want to look like a discoball but now I wouldn't be without them. I find powder easier to use xx
