Is Matte Really All That?

I've said many a time how I'm a big lover of foundation and I have an impressive collection at home. I've been using more from Clarins the last year and I've really started to love the brand. Two of their newest products are face related with a new foundation and powder duo but are they really all that?

New foundation launches make the base fan in me very happy and when I saw that Clarin's latest launch was the ultimate in mattifying foundation, I was bared faced and ready to try it. The Pore Perfecting, Matifying Foundation (£28) is designed to fight against dilated pores and shine. It's a lightweight, matte base that smooths on to skin helping keep a soft texture and control oil. The foundation has a limited shade range with just five variations available and has a light to medium coverage.

I really wanted to love this, I thought it would be perfect in the sun but it just reminds me of an expensive Dream Matte Mousse and as much as I loved my trusty pot of Shell coloured mousse, I've moved on to bigger and better things. I found the formula a little greasy and as much as it smoothed my pores, as promised, it just didn't last on my skin. Not all hope was lost though as I did find a little gem in the perfectly matte gold compact.

The Pore Perfecting Matifying Kit (£33) is the saviour of this new collection. Housed in matte gold packaging, the powder helps keep you looking shine free all day. It's become a permanent staple in my everyday routine. The two in one product features a mattifying transparent powder to mask pores while smoothing and enhancing the skin as well as refillable mattifying papers to instantly absorb shine. I've always loved the gimmick of shine papers so the teen Alice was most excited for these!

The travel friendly compact comes with everything you need and the papers aren't fragranced or contain powder. Just absorb the shine with the papers then mattify with the powder. One out of two isn't bad? Have you tried Clarins new collection? What did you think?
