8 Coffee Houses in Southampton you must try

If there is one thing I know, it's coffee, and when it comes to Southampton, we have some pretty excellent coffee spots in the city. From rustic coffee houses and local roasteries to others really putting the city on the map when it comes to great beans, it's something you should really try and explore when visiting. 

Think of Southampton less as a city with one famous coffee destination and more as a collection of excellent independent cafés. The fun comes from trying different neighbourhoods, talking to baristas, and discovering how each café approaches coffee a little differently, so here are eight coffee houses you should absolutely try. 

Deveroast, Botley Mills SO30 2GB

Nestled in the historic Botley Mills just east of Southampton, Deveroast is a small independent coffee house and roastery that hand-roasts speciality-grade coffee on-site. The café has become known for its relaxed atmosphere, vinyl soundtrack, and dedication to ethically sourced beans. Founded by Pete Devereux, who turned a lockdown coffee project into a full-fledged roastery, it combines serious coffee craftsmanship with a welcoming community feel. 

Maurie's, The Avenue, SO17 1XS

Maurie's is a beloved Southampton sandwich shop and coffee spot known for its exceptional focaccia sandwiches, speciality coffee, and vibrant community atmosphere. Located on The Avenue, it has earned a loyal following through its commitment to quality ingredients, creative menu specials, and warm, independent spirit, making it one of Southampton's standout food destinations. They serve Roasting Party Coffee with Australian roots and a reputation for quality, consistency, and a fun, community-driven approach to coffee. The Roasting Party has become one of the South Coast's most respected names in speciality coffee.

Barraquito, Bedford Place, SO15 2DF

Barraquito is a contemporary coffee and matcha bar in Southampton, celebrated for its Deveroast Coffee, handcrafted bagels, and beautifully designed space. Drawing inspiration from Spanish café culture, it combines exceptional drinks, quality local ingredients, and warm hospitality to create one of the city's most exciting new speciality coffee destinations. The Smoked Salmon bagel is excellent, and they make a delicious Oat Flat White. 

Edison's, High Street, SO14 2AA

Edison's Coffee & Wine Southampton is an independent coffee shop and wine bar on Southampton's High Street, celebrated for its speciality coffee, homemade cakes, and welcoming atmosphere. Seamlessly transitioning from a bustling daytime café to an intimate evening wine bar, Edison's has become a favourite destination for great coffee, relaxed brunches, and social gatherings in the city centre. It is one of my favourite spots to dip into on the high street for a takeaway Oat Flat White or brunch with friends. It's great on a sunny day as you look out over Holy Rood Church too. 

Good Things, Canute Road, SO14 3FH

Good Things Coffee is a modern speciality coffee destination in Ocean Village, celebrated for its expertly crafted coffee, quality food offering, and music-led atmosphere. From fresh pastries and seasonal dishes to vinyl records and guest DJ sessions, it creates a welcoming space where coffee, food, and culture come together. It's light, airy, and the staff are super knowledgeable. It is one of my favourite spots to work from too, just good vibes all round. 

E Bakehouse, High Street, SO14 2BT

E Bakehouse is an artisan bakery and coffee spot in Southampton, celebrated for its handcrafted pastries, freshly baked breads, and quality speciality coffee. Known for its attention to detail and welcoming atmosphere, it has become a go-to destination for those seeking exceptional baked goods alongside a great cup of coffee. It is arguably the best bakery in Southampton, and there is nothing better than sitting in their open window watching the city go by with a flat white. 

Osoto, Queensway, SO14 3BL

Osoto Coffee is a speciality coffee bar located within Vinilo Record Store in Southampton, blending outstanding coffee with a passion for music and vinyl culture. Known for its Australian-inspired approach, expertly brewed coffee, and unique record-store setting, Osoto offers one of the most memorable café experiences in the city. The best bit? You get to browse the record store afterwards! It's such a cool spot, and there is nothing else like it in the city.

If there's a yellow cup, it's usually Mettricks.
