It's Panto Season! Discover Peter Pan at Mayflower Theatre

The festivities are in full swing and with panto season upon us, it was time to head to the Mayflower Theatre for this year's pantomime. The Qdos Entertainment Production of Peter Pan which will be gracing the stage in Southampton until January 5th so there's still plenty of time to book tickets.

Peter Pan features a whole host of familiar faces including Marti Pellow, Darren Day and The Grumbleweeds so you're sure to recognise some faces. It's fun and frolics with a few questionable skits from beginning to end and I'm sure lots of adults will enjoy it just as much as the children.

Joshua's Christmas Eve Box 2019

I adore the idea of a Christmas Eve Box and it's something we couldn't wait to do for Joshua. Arran and I have a few little traditions we've started during our relationship and Christmas Eve is always a chance for us to wear new pyjamas, eat lots of cheese and treats and watch a Christmas film so we've taken that and created a child-friendly version for Joshua with a few added extras.

I know they're not for everyone, I think the beauty of Christmas is that we all have our very own traditions and this is just one of ours so I wanted to share what we've put inside ours this year.

Five Lipsticks from Lipstick Queen for the Festive Season

When it comes to lipsticks during the festive season, I'm pretty set in my ways with a classic red but after falling more for Lipstick Queen this year I've branched out this December.

Lipstick Queen is known for breaking beauty barriers, leading the way with bright lips, unbeatable colours and incredible formulas to boot. The textures are soft, the formulas moisturising and the colours can transform a look with just one swipe so I've selected five shades that are perfect for those oh so special days during the festive seasons.

Shop from your sofa this Christmas with Moonpig

In previous years, I've always loved to get out on the high street and finish my Christmas shopping. I adored the festivities, the coffee shop break for a hot chocolate and soaking up the twinkling lights but with a two-year-old in tow, it's just not worth the inevitable stress that will incur this year.

So I've joined the masses and shopped online and ya know what? It hasn't been that bad especially with our own Christmas tree twinkling in the background and a hot chocolate by my side. Moonpig has been my go-to for a lot of gifts this year, I've been totally impressed with the variety available and I've managed to pick up some corkers so I'm going to share eight items to pop in your basket from Moonpig this Christmas.

Get Christmassy with L'Occitane Festive Garden

When it comes to beauty at Christmas, one brand that always does it so well is L'Occitane and the Festive Garden range is at the top of my recommendation list if you're looking for something beautifully festive for a loved one this Christmas or ya know, for yourself.

The Limited Edition Festive Garden Collection features a handful of products that will keep skin soft, well moisturised and smelling gorgeous. Each of the products are made using responsibly sourced green mandarin from Brazil and ylang-ylang flowers from the Comoros Islands so you can just imagine how great they smell. Spoiler - bloody fabulous!

It's a really great collection of products and skin will not know nourishment like it.

A Very Merry Christmas at Pho

December is the month of glorious food and maybe one too many tipples and I'm totally on-board with that. Getting friends and family together at this time of year is my favourite and with plenty of Christmas set menus available, you just need to choose where to go.

One place you should definitely add to your list is Pho, now open in Gunwharf Quays. The family-run restaurant first opened its doors in 2005 after owners, Stephen and Juliette travelled through Vietnam and fell in love with the food.

They serve healthy Vietnamese street food which is all cooked daily in their kitchens. There is a huge range of gluten-free dishes accredited by Coeliac UK as well as many choices for those with dairy and egg allergies. The majority of the dishes can be made vegan too so it's pretty much the perfect place to go.

The best bit? The Christmas menu is banging!

Tower Toymaker's Workshop at Spinnaker Tower

Finding somewhere to visit Father Christmas with little ones is brand new territory for us, it's the first year Joshua has been really aware of Christmas and who Father Christmas is so we wanted to find somewhere special to visit with him. We wanted an experience, something interactive and something we'd remember and the Tower Toymaker's Workshop at Spinnaker Tower was perfect for that.

We were invited to the Spinnaker Tower at the end of November so wrapped up from the wind, we made our way to Father Christmas' workshop and put our elf hats on.

I've collected together some fab products that I think would be perfect for the beauty lover in your life together with a couple of surprises you could even hang on your tree.

Victorian Festival of Christmas at Portsmouth Historic Dockyard

Tis the season to be merry and that's exactly what you'll find at the Victorian Festival of Christmas at Portsmouth Historic Dockyard this weekend. The annual event will be celebrating twenty years of festive magic over three days bringing Christmas to life on their cobbled streets.

The festival sees the dockyard transformed into a bustling Christmas market full of wonderful stalls selling food and drink to festive decorations and gifts as well as circus performances, Dickensian characters and the chance to meet Father Christmas in his beautiful grotto.

We have wanted to visit the Victorian Festival of Christmas for a number of years now but for one reason or another haven't made it so being able to finally visit on Friday filled me full of Christmas joy. My grandmother and I took Joshua and arrived at 10am for a full day of festive fun in the beautiful November sunshine.

We couldn't have picked a more perfect day for it!

In collaboration with shopDisney - contains press sample.

Tis the season to be jolly and that means warm mince pies, cosy evenings my family and plenty of Christmas films. I find at this time of year I begin to slow down which isn't a bad thing when my to-do list is so long, I just prioritise what needs to be done so I can make the most of time with my family! I really like to keep my evenings completely clear in the winter so they can be filled with what we love most be it a deliciously warm stew or curling up under a blanket to watch Disney films.

It's almost the most wonderful time of year and a surefire way to get into the festive mood is a visit to Winchester Christmas Market. The market is recognised as one of the best Christmas Markets in Europe because of its incredible exhibitors, beautiful location and festive atmosphere and with over 100 chalets to explore it makes for the perfect Christmassy activity.

In 2018, Winchester Cathedral Christmas Market was voted the second-best in the UK by Booking.com and it has also been voted among the top eight Christmas Markets in Europe by the New York Post. People travel far and wide to visit every year with over 350,000 people visiting last year and you can expect just as many this year, it really is magical.

All I want for Christmas + A Soap & Glory Giveaway!

*This is a paid partnership with Boots UK*

Christmas is such a magical time of year, we celebrate it big and full of love every year and now we have a certain little someone it's become even more magical for us. That also means I need to plan and be a bit more prepared than previous years so that everything goes off without a hitch so making a list and checking it twice is my new Christmas motto for 2019.

I'd love to say I started my Christmas shopping in August like almost a quarter of Brits but alas, I haven't even bought my Christmas cards yet. I feel like Christmas has crept up on us this year so armed with my trusty list and all my faith in Boots I think I'm gonna pull Christmas out the sack just in time this year!

Christmas Bucket List

Hot on the tails of my Autumn Bucket List, I also thought I'd share the one I've created for Christmas. I adore Christmas and with Joshua being so much more aware this year it meant we could add even more to our list including visiting Father Christmas.

I like to keep my bucket lists filled with things that are easily accomplished be it big or small. They also give me the push to do a little more when all I want to do is hide from the cold with a blanket.

So here are a list of things I'm hoping to do with family and friends this Christmas, I'd love to know what you have planned too.

There have been a few beauty products I've been going back to again and again recently and I also wanted to share my latest piece of jewellery from Daisy London.

Bite Me Burger & Get Plucked

When it comes to food, Southampton has so much choice that you could probably eat at a different restaurant every day for a year and still be left with more places to try. I'm definitely not complaining because going out to eat with my family is one of my favourite things to do and that's how we found ourselves at Southampton's latest addition, Bite Me Burger & Get Plucked recently.

The new eatery can be found in London Road, Southampton and houses both brands under one roof. I quite like the idea of the best of both worlds especially if you're not sure what you fancy.

Les Misérables Mayflower Theatre

Cameron Mackintosh's Les Misérables arrived in Southampton to much excitement this week as it enjoys another run at Mayflower Theatre. The critically acclaimed production of Boublil and Schönberg's musical based on the book by Victor Hugo has been watched by 120 million people across 52 countries and in 22 languages. It is legendary and one I was so very excited to finally sit down and experience for myself.

The show was re-staged almost ten years ago and has been hailed as the 21st Century Les Mis thanks to its impressive projections, moving stage props and fast-paced direction. I've never read or watched Les Misérables before so I went in with completely fresh eyes and I'm so glad because I was completely blown away.

The Easy Eco Home Swaps We've Made

In August, I shared a post on The Easy Eco Beauty Swaps I've Made and it had a great response so I wanted to gather together the home swaps we've made too. I spent quite a bit of time researching for what we could change in the home that we hadn't done already and as we've run out of those items we've replaced them with a more sustainable option.

Becoming a mum has changed a lot for me, especially how I see my impact on the earth my son is growing up on. We've all seen the documentaries and the warnings, it should be enough to put the frighteners on anyone and so here are our home swaps we've made so far.

The Kooples X Clarins Lip Comfort Oils

The Clarins Lip Comfort Oils are a product I use daily, my go to has always been the Tangerine but I have tried a number of the others too. They're a unique plant based blend to help smooth and nourish lips with a hint of colour, each one is inspired by Clarins expert face and body oils and are like a mini spa treatment for lips.

They're very comfortable to wear and leave my lips feeling nourished albeit a touch sticky but as it's not lip gloss sticky I really don't mind them at all. I always have one in my bag floating around for when I need to give my lips a little nourishment. The doe foot applicator is brilliant too.

So with my love of these fabulous little lip products already firmly in my heart, The Kooples X Clarins collection had me very excited.

L'Occitane Beauty Advent Calendar 2019

It's the time of year for beauty advent calendars and I have my hands on a L'Occitane Advent Calendar full of skin loving treats. It's one I've been looking forward to and it doesn't disappoint, especially if you're a skincare fan like me. I find advent calendars are a great way to discover a new brand and get to try their products before committing to something full size. From hand creams, face cleansers and soaps to their much loved oils and perfumes, it's a fab treat to open each day in the lead up to Christmas.

L'Occitane is a brand I really love, I use a lot of their products daily so something like this is my favourite way to try more even if I do always go back to my beloved Verbena range.

Joshua's Halloween Box

I was chatting recently on Twitter about Halloween boxes and if they were a thing because I really loved the idea of creating one for Joshua. My idea originally stemmed from Christmas Eve Boxes and so I started researching and didn't find much so I thought I'd just create my own. Joshua is too young for trick or treating and buckets full of sweets so a Halloween Box was the perfect alternative for our little ghoul and to help make things a little spooky.

8 Top Tips for Pumpkin Picking

We've been going to pick our own pumpkins for the last four years and it's one of our favourite autumn activities to do, even before having Joshua. We have a wonderful pick-your-own farm that is really local to us and we head there regularly throughout the year for strawberries, blackberries and sweetcorn too.

Pickwell Farm in Southampton can be found on Grange Road and with free parking and really reasonable prices, there's never been a better time to support our local farm and of course, pick your own. Pumpkin Patches are great if you're near one and there are a number that pops up this time of year but supporting a local farm is so much more worthwhile!

I've put together some of our top tips for making the most of pumpkin picking and with half term right around the corner now is the perfect time to go.

Why you should be encouraging Pretend Play with your Little Ones

When I look back on my own childhood, it's full of memories of fun, pretend play and cooking people pretend meals in my kitchen and it's something I feel is so important for children. Arran and I are relatively laid back when it comes to parenting Joshua, we have television time and he also has time to play on his own but one thing we agreed on equally is that there should be fun with pretend play too.

Encouraging Joshua's creativity and mind is something we do a lot of because the pros are invaluable for children. It was one of the many reasons we wanted Joshua to have a kitchen for his second birthday. He adores watching me cook and helping me when it's safe so we just knew it was the perfect gift for him and I've been enjoying a number of pretend coffees since his birthday.

Afternoon Tea at Lakeview Hilton Ageas Bowl

When it comes to relaxing afternoons with family or friends, there's nothing better than afternoon tea and a trip to the spa which is exactly what Emily and I did recently. We were invited to Hilton Ageas Bowl for Afternoon Tea at Lakeview Bar followed by a few hours in the Eforea Spa and it was the perfect way to while away a Friday afternoon.

The Hilton Ageas Bowl is somewhere we visit often as paying customers and as guests to review their latest offers, seasonal food and hotel stays and we always have an enjoyable time. The hotel is based in West End, Southampton and is the ideal location for pre flight or cruise stays as well as being great for escaping the city.

Who doesn't want to do that every now and then?

What's in Joshua's Trunki

We recently had a staycation in the city which meant Joshua was able to use his Trunki for the first time so it was the perfect time to show you exactly what we packed inside for our little lad. Trunki recently contacted us about designing our very own and with over one billion options, we couldn't wait to get started.

Trunki is the perfect luggage for children, it;s hand luggage sized and little ones can ride along by sitting on top of the Trunki which will make airport dashes a breeze. There's every colour, animal, creature and theme available and with the option to design your own, you can make yours completely one of a kind. I sat with Joshua one evening and pointed to the different colours and that is how we came up with our blue and purple Trunki with black horns.

Looks fab doesn't it?

The theme park has been voted the UK's top family theme park repeatedly over the last few years and I'm not surprised at all. In recent years, it has welcomed Peppa Pig World and the Lost Kingdom as well as Critter Creak and Little Africa so finding something to do with children of all ages is a breeze.

Perfect Presents for a Two Year Old

With a certain little boy turning two in a few weeks it was time to start looking for the perfect presents but I struggled this year, really struggled. We decided on his main present quite some time ago and we also wanted to get some smaller bits but when it came to it we were a bit clueless on what to actually buy. Joshua has a real love for anything wheel related and the lucky guy has plenty of cars, tractors and trains so we needed to be a little more imaginative as we knew others would be adding to his wheel collection.

We've gone down the play route so think puzzles, books, building blocks and of course play-doh to help his imagination and coordination. I spoke to a number of friends and we were all struggling for ideas so once we'd finally decided on what we would be wrapping up, creating a gift guide seemed like the obvious answer so I can help any of you that may be struggling too.

The best bit? Everything is square or rectangle so wrapping will be a doddle!

Motown the Musical at Mayflower Theatre

With the Autumn theatre season in full swing, it was time to head to Mayflower Theatre for the latest show gracing the stage. Motown the Musical is one I've been looking forward to for yonks. My parents regularly played Motown while I was growing up so I'm really familiar with the music and having seen rave reviews about the show, I really couldn't wait to see it live.

And the wait was worth it! It was truly sensational and I would watch it again in a heartbeat because it just totally blew me away. The singing was incredible, the way the story was told was completely captivating and it was so hard not to get up in the aisles and have a little boogie.

Pho Restaurant - A Vietnamese Dream

Eating out is one of those treats that I adore, even more so when it's with family. When it comes to food I think being adventurous is the best way to be with the exception of bugs and crickets which I have tried and will not be eating again. There is so much culture when it comes to food that it would be boring if we all ate the same bland food all the time rather than experimenting and it's something we both feel really passionate about when it comes to Joshua too.

Our little guy is so good with eating because we try him with everything and if he doesn't go much on it the first time you can bet five minutes later he'll have another go and eat it all up. We headed to Pho which has just opened in Gunwharf Quays recently which is a Vietnamese restaurant with the most delicious food. The family run restaurant first opened its doors in 2005 after owners, Stephen and Juliette travelled through Vietnam and fell in love with the food.

They serve healthy Vietnamese street food which is all cooked daily in their kitchens. There is a huge range of gluten free dishes accredited by Coeliac UK as well as many choices for those with dairy and egg allergies. Farewell Summer

I feel like this year has whizzed by, I'm not one to wish time away especially since having Joshua but I know on occasions I've said I couldn't wait for Autumn but now it's here I almost feel like I'm mourning Summer. We had such a wonderful summer, we've spent lazy days out in the sun or at home in the paddling pool, we've had some brilliant days out and we've had amazing weather too. I'm sure the weather alters my mood and a part of me feels a little concerned about the darker, colder months.

This year has changed so much for me, I suppose I've been on a self-discovery journey as wanky as that sounds but something had to give after a bloody awful 2018. This year has been the one where I've found myself again, focused on being happier and finally found my way with motherhood. Something just clicked and its meant a lot of things just slotted into place which meant making the most of our Summer and we really did!

Tips for letting a property out

Conducting Viewings Correctly
A viewing is your chance to really sell your your property as a short term home. It is also a chance for you to get a feel for the tenant. Given this, it is important that the viewing goes well. To ensure that, it is important to be organised.
Arrive at the property in plenty of time and make sure it is clean and tidy; this includes the outside, remember first impressions count. Make sure you have the details of the tenants with you. This will help you to remember names and mean that you can make notes of specific questions they had or concerns you have. Remember to greet them at the door to the property and welcome them in.

Guide them through each room and point out any specific features and pay particular attention to any areas that you covered in the property description. Don't forget to show them any outside areas or balconies. Answer any questions that the viewers have and be clear about what you expect from them.

Remember that you cannot discriminate against potential tenants based on race, religion sexual orientation or disability. But if you have a legitimate reason, you can refuse to rent to a specific person. For example, the property is unsuitable for their needs, and physical changes to the property cannot be accommodated. Also if the viewer does not want to agree to the terms of the tenancy you can ask your letting agents not to take the enquiry any further.

Post Perfect Pictures

How do you ensure that your accommodation is high on the list of potential homes for tenants? The answer is to include photographs in your listings. However, this only works if you take the right photographs in the right way.

When compiling property descriptions photographs can present elements of your accommodation that cannot easily be put into a limited space. They're also great for providing evidence of the descriptions you give, for example, a newly decorated living room, or well-furnished bedroom.

Photographs should encourage potential tenants to want to view the property. While they do not necessarily need to be taken by a professional they do need to be of a high quality. They should be clear and taken in good light. It is also important that the rooms in your property are taken from the right angles. They should present the rooms in the best possible way and give a fair indication of the size and shape of the rooms. Take at least one picture of the outside of the property. While photo shopping pictures isn’t acceptable, it is ok to crop them to avoid neighbouring properties, particularly if it doesn’t present yours in the best possible light. As well as following these tips, ensure that the property is tidy before the pictures are taken and try to avoid taking them on an overcast or wet day as this will make them look dull.

Checking Out Procedures

Properties require you to take the same care at the end of the tenancy as they do at the start. When your tenant leaves you will need to complete a checking out procedure before their deposit can be returned and the property can be let to new tenants.

The main purpose of a checking out procedure for your property is to determine how much of the tenant's deposit is to be returned. It also enables you to ensure that all of the tenants personal items have been removed and that all keys have been returned. The property inspection should be undertaken with the tenant present wherever possible. This means that minor disagreements can be settled at the time.

The original inventory, including photographs, should be used as the basis for comparison. Remember that you need to allow for acceptable wear and tear on the property given the amount of time that the tenancy has been in place for. Check through each room of the house with the tenant and highlight any areas for concern. These might be areas that have not been left clean, missing items, or damage. It is good practice to give the tenant the opportunity to put things right themselves.

When an agreement is reached, or there is no cause for concern, the amount of deposit to be returned can be agreed and the process of returning the deposit started. Don't forget to collect meter readings as part of this process and to collect all keys from the tenant.

These are sure fire ways to make sure letting goes without a hitch and who wouldn't want that?

God's House Tower Southampton

Southampton is awash with history and one thing I always say when walking around our beautiful city is to always look up because there is always something to discover. I've lived in the city most of my life and even I find new and interesting things when out and about which was how we stumbled across the secret opening of God's House Tower, the new arts and heritage venue in Southampton.

The 13th century gatehouse once housed the Museum of Archaeology somewhere I visited on a school trip twenty years ago. It's the one and only time I had ever been inside so when news circulated that A Space Arts would be refurbishing the site over seven years I couldn't wait to see the end result.
