Five Happy Things // June Edition

It feels weird to still be in this strange Lockdown limbo again - a little part of me did think it may all be over by December and how wrong was I? Now we're tentatively making our way towards indoor dining, soft plays, and seeing more people I'm feeling a little overwhelmed while also trying not to get my hopes up just in case it all goes wrong again. The ups and downs of lockdown eh?

One thing I think we can all agree on is that the last year has taught us a lot. For us, it was to value the small things, make memories where we can, and make the most of family and friends. Happy moments don't have to be a huge, momentous thing, they can be just about anything - be it a chocolate bar you treated yourself to or a long walk listening to an audiobook.

I've really been trying to do this myself recently and so in the spirit of just that I'm sharing five happy things that brightened our spirits in June.

God's House Tower Re-Opened!
It's been a long time coming but God's House Tower is finally re-opening and we were so excited to have a look around. We've visited a few times since it opened in 2019 and love popping in for a coffee and to view the latest exhibitions. It gives such a fascinating insight into the history of Southampton so it's an absolute must-visit if you're in the city. It's great for children too, our son loved exploring with us, especially right up on the rooftop where you get 360-degree views of the city.

Iced Coffee
The only thing getting me through sweaty mornings running after a three-year-old... I just can't wait for it not to be decaf anymore - I am missing caffeine right now! I've taken it up on myself to do a mini-tour of different coffee shops in Southampton to try alllll the ice tea and it has probably been my best decision of the month.

Flower Power
I decided to renew my Bloom & Wild subscription which means fresh flowers each month and it has been such a perk. There's nothing quite like a fresh bunch of flowers to brighten up a room and with wildflowers, meadow blooms, and peonies galore it has been a pretty colourful few weeks!

Anniversary Celebrations
Arran and I celebrated nine years together at the beginning of the month and had a rare afternoon together for a little day date. We don't do too much to make the occasion nowadays but we do try and book in a meal somewhere so we hot-footed it to Bacaro for one of their legendary roast dinners. I've been a few times but Arran hadn't so it was lovely to experience it together.

I started "Come with me..." on Reels
I have a love/hate relationship with Instagram right now so to inject a bit of fun again, mainly for me, I decided to start a series on Reels to show different parts of Southampton - be it restaurants, museums, parks, anything! I'm always wandering around the city so it seemed perfect and will hopefully reignite some passion again. I think a lot of it has to do with my pregnancy, being tired and not wanting to share too much so this is the perfect medium for me right now.

What things are making you smile at the moment?
