I'm So Glad We Live in a World where there are Octobers

The most wonderful time of year? I think so...

I've always been a lover of Autumn and although this year been a little different with fewer days out and adventures in crisp, brown leaves - we've still tried to make the most of it. J went back to preschool in September so we've had a little less time to do things but as with most things this year we've found comfort in the small things.

We've been for coffees as a three, ran through puddles and crunchy leaves and explored the many parks around the city. There was a visit to a pumpkin patch, a birthday to celebrate and plenty of yummy food so looking back over the month was the perfect time to pick out some highlights and have a chat.

Coffee dates are back
Coffee is what keeps me alive after those early mornings so being able to visit our favourite independent coffee shops again has been such a pleasure. We're yet to venture inside anywhere but as long as there is outside seating and a dry day, it hasn't stopped us.

We've enjoyed flat whites and brownies at the park after visiting Docks Coffee, babycchinos and toasted teacakes at Mettricks in the morning sun and enjoyed warm cookies while collecting conkers.

It's been so nice to have that slice of normality back again.

Autumn Shades & Moving House
With moving house this month it has meant I've been able to dig out all our Autumn decor and Halloween Decorations to celebrate the most colourful season of all.

The lamps are on, the candles are flickering and I have the most beautiful dried blooms dotted around. A lot of our time has been spent sorting through boxes and finding a new place for our belongings. It's only when you move, you realise how much stuff you accumulate so it's been a lot of Marketplace and eBay sorting but we're getting there.

There's just the loft to sort and the office and I am itching to get my hands on it. I have some gorgeous prints on the way and of course more plants - I can't wait to share it once it's ready.

Pumpkin Patch Fun
It was our third year of pumpkin picking with Joshua and it went much better than last year. We've managed to time it perfectly each year and have clear blue skies and gorgeous sunshine which certainly make the photos look better but last year after weeks of rain there was also a lot of mud.

We ended up pretty caked in it in 2019, Joshua hated every moment and just wanted to be picked up which meant we were then covered too - it was quite the experience.

Thankfully this year there was no rain and Joshua loved it! He was running free, collecting pumpkins and just had the best time - it's become one of our favourite yearly traditions.

Let there be cake & Birthday cheer
Joshua is three! I can't believe my favourite small human is three years old - WHERE did the time go?

We celebrated at home with immediate family (our bubble of six) and had presents galore, the most wonderful dairy-free tea party and a purple cake covered in funfetti. We laughed, I cried because I was overly emotional that my baby is growing up and we just had the best time.

He's been asking for the birthday song ever since and is a little sad he has to wait another year but overall, his lockdown birthday was a complete success!

That pretty much rounds up our October - we just have Halloween left to go and we're having another little party in our bubble with ghoulish snacks, scary sweets and a pumpkin or three.

Tell me what you did in October?
