Soothed, Settled & Skin Happy for Sleep

When it comes to sleep, I don't know about you but I need to be content, comfortable and relaxed before drifting off to the land of nod so why would that be any different for your baby? There are many things that could stop your little bundle from having a settled sleep but one thing that you can help with is making sure their super soft baby butts are protected with Bepanthen, the leading brand for nappy rash protection.

There was never going to be any other nappy rash cream we would use, I'd been recommending it for years during my time in pharmacy so the Bepanthen Nappy Care Ointment was one of the first baby skincare products we stocked up on. Nappy rash can affect up to a third of babies and toddlers so we wanted to make sure that if the time came, we had the best to hand when we needed it.

To help make bed times easier for us and not become something we hated, we implemented a 'loose' routine pretty quickly and Joshua has slept through more or less from this point. Our bedtime routine is simple and for us, it's family time, we both get involved and help get Joshua ready before we settle him down for a night of milk dreams and slumber.

I personally don't think there is anything better than crawling into bed after a warm bath wearing fresh pyjamas so that's exactly what the little one gets too. Firstly, find a bubble bath with calming lavender and create lots of bubbles. We love bath time because it means splash splash splash for Joshua. After lots of water fun, I begin Joshua's skincare routine which guarantees soothed and settled skin for night time by using a calming baby moisturiser on his skin and any dry patches. Doing this helps keep their skin soft and less irritable, I'd recommend finding an unscented lotion as it soaks into the skin easier and I find unscented is just better for their sensitive skin.

I then follow this up by focusing on his cute baby butt and making sure it's 100% protected as he'll be in his nappy for a long time during the night. I use the Bepanthen Nappy Care Ointment on his bottom because the breathable ointment helps protect his skin, keeps it soft and the light consistency means it isn't too heavy on his delicate tush. It's also great for me because we have a wriggler so the flip cap means I can get it open, on his skin and then a nappy on in seconds.

After his nappy, we put him in clean pyjamas, read our favourite book, at the moment it's Funny Bones and then feed him a bottle. Giving him warm milk helps send him into dreamland, I suppose it's like Horlicks before bed but for babies. It sounds pretty fabulous to me. We then place Joshua into his crib and let him drift off. We use white noise regularly to help so if you're struggling with bedtimes, I really recommend you try it whether that is through a cuddly toy with a built in sound box or a white noise playlist on Spotify. It will honestly change your life and you may even get a full nights sleep but don't quote me on that!

The other thing we find really helps with sleeping through is not doing a nappy change through the night as it can make babies more awake. We've tested a lot to nappies to find a super absorbent brand that means we don't have that problem and we can settle him back really quickly. Most nappy brands have an ultra dry range so we switch to this during the night so it's really worth looking to see if your nappy brand does the same. Ultra dry means less wake ups and more sleep! This is another reason why we love Bepanthen as the ointment really helps protect the skin during long nappy times while still keeping his skin moisturised.

The Bepanthen Nappy Care Ointment contains no unnecessary ingredients, no antiseptics or preservatives and is free from fragrance which is really important to me, I don't like fragranced baby products as they can dry out their delicate skin. It is just an all round great product and now having used it ourselves, we can totally see why it's such a parenting fave. We wouldn't be without it.

Bepanthen Nappy Care Ointment is available at all leading supermarkets, chemists and independent pharmacies. RRP £3.99 for 30g, £5.99 for 50g or £7.99 for 100g.
