The Opening of L'Osteria Southampton

As if Southampton wasn't already foodied out, we welcomed another new restaurant to the mix. L'Oosteria serves traditional Italian cuisine in an osteria setting. My first thoughts before stepping through the door? Do we really need another Italian? Turns out we actually did because I ate the best risotto in years and had such a fun night that we've booked to go back this weekend.

The idea behind L'Osteria is a place where people get together to eat really well and enjoy the company of families, friends, couples, old and young. It is a lively atmosphere, and the delicious smell of authentic Italian cuisine lingers in the air. This is an open, welcoming place, where everyone can be themselves and feel at home. Sounds almost too good to be true but with the space for 250 covers and stunning yet homely interior, this is somewhere you'll want to experience.

We started the evening by being shown around the restaurant, the open plan kitchen and the second level restaurant by the manager while sipping on a refreshing mint and basil fusion. Canapes were laid on for all guests and it broke my heart that I couldn't eat the freshly sliced parma ham due to my pregnancy. I made the most of the smoked salmon canapes instead.

There was so much to look at and so many lovely faces to speak to that it took a while to get round to looking at the menu. I started with a deliciously fresh bruschetta followed by possibly the best risotto funghi I've ever eaten. Famed for their 18" pizzas, it's something I'll be trying on our next visit.

Somehow, after all that food I managed to squeeze in a chocolate souffle with mango sorbet with was incredible. The sorbet complimented the souffle perfectly, something I wouldn't of thought of previously. L'Osteria is now open in West Quay South and I urge you to check it out, I have a feeling you will not be disappointed!
